Dog Bells

Postby Trackerdog » Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:17 pm

I am seeking your help and assistance again.

Which is the best type of dog bell to use and why?

I have researched so many web sites on dog bells I am now becoming confused as to which is the best bell to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
Michael

Hi Michael, I look after all the Berkshire SAR Dogs kit.

We recommend using falconry bells. The ones that tend to be the most popular are "Lahore Mediums" they are around £6 a pair over here. These seem to be robust, loud enough and not too big. You can spend as much as you like on some of the falconry bells as yoyu can get matched pairs in defferent tones. But the Lahores have always seemd to be fine. We use a company over here called Westweald falconry, but im sure you'll be able to get them over there.

Hope this has been of some help

Wow!
Your dogs agreed to it? I mean, they didn't do something strange like they want to take it off seriously and barking at times?
Mine just did. So, we didn't place any bells at her after all.
Any tips on how to do that?

Ok, here are some info about my dog.
An american eskimo, 9 months old, a female and a cat lover.

Sorry to hear you've had a problem with your dog accepting the bells?! I didn't use the recommended ones but some slightly smaller, and didn't have a problem with my Springer Spaniel but she doesn't react to many things, we're always banging and crashing things around her! (Maybe they won't be robust enough in the long term but we haven't lost any yet!!) I would suggest you start your dog getting used to the bells by attaching them to yourself, or just jingling them a few times a day - like most things it will help if she can get used to them gradually so she can build up her nerve. Perhaps shake them a few times before feeding time or some other activity she enjoys? Let us know how you get on! Sally
