I know this isn't right but I just like the word (s) [laugh]

Necrotising Fasciitis [tongue2]

I like that one too, Niki - not so keen on what it means though!!!

Okay folks, I'm going to be out all day and as this isn't one you can guess at, if noone has got it by the time I get back, I'll give you the answer and set a new (much easier!) question!! [tongue2]

Re: Pub Quiz

Right, time's up!!! And the answer is ........

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

At 45 letters long it is "a factitious word alleged to mean 'a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, causing inflammation in the lungs.'”

This is not the longest word ever … by a loooong way, that honour goes to the full chemical name of the protein titin which is a mind-boggling 189,819 letters long!!!!! [ohmy] [wacko] As a chemical name it does not qualify for longest word status, and, no, I can neither spell nor pronounce it! It seems to be a mass of “l”s and “y”s. If you are sad enough (like me) to want to see it in full it’s here … http://sarahmcculloch.appliedgeekery.com/longest-word.html

My favourite word to pronounce is floccinaucinihilipilification which is a very long-winded way of describing something as unimportant. This is a mere 29 letters long and is the longest unchallenged non-technical word beating antidisestablishmentarianism by 1 letter.

Here endeth the lesson for today!! I hope you all feel edumikated! [tongue2]

So ... another question then …. easy one this time and revealing another childhood obsession of mine:

Who was the first gymnast to ever score a perfect 10?

I think you are thinking of the right word, Matt, but ..... that's not quite the right spelling!!!! [tongue2]

so were you tricking him into thinking it was a volcanic word rather than a medical word!

Not at all, Mr Kearns!! As my word has "volcanoconiosis" in it, I assumed Matt was thinking of the right word! I wasn't trying to throw him off the scent!

Russian gymnast Olga Korbet!!

Or maybe her friend a year later, also a Russian, but can't remember her name! [biggrin]

Ah, Sue, sorry! Olga Korbut was my favourite, but sadly, no, she wasn't the first to score a 10 (not sure if she ever scored 10 actually).

Clue - she wasn't Russian.

Oh come on guys!!!! I guess it's only easy if you know the answer, but even non-gymnastics fans must have heard of her! Romanian, Montreal olympics 1976, 14 years old, defected to the USA, surname not pronounced even vaguely the way it's spelled (so I'm not expecting correct spellings!) .......

Someone???? [unsure]

Anyone??????? [huh]
