Apologies, I once again typed what I was thinking.

Obviously a phone number/contact can't be put on the forum, feel free to contact me on either email address or phone number.

If I asked for the handlers advice for their opinion where they think they should search and the reasoning behind their opinions, would they be 110% honest? Or would they over-emphasise the abilities of the canine?

I think this is in more relation to supporting teams whilst on a Cheshire call-out, as I have begun to understand a lot from the Cheshire side of things.

Another...

If we'd been on a call-out for a long period of time, and I ask for a dog team to be called in - would it cause a problem if the dogs went into an area which had already been searched by team members/police/rangers/etc?

Don't think I can give you an accurate answer as every handlers personallity is different. We teach all of our handlers to be 100% honest, and that is exactly what I have observed, but I can't say what happens when I'm not there (although I would like to believe that it is the same).

For air scent dogs - as long as they have moved out of the area I don't see it to be a problem, however you would get better results in an uncontaminated area.

Tracking or Trailing - I would guess that assuming they are scent discriminatory and have a scent article to work with, they should be OK. Having said that, would somebody more qualified than me want to answer this one?

Hi Mojo,

This shouldnt cause much of a problem really, the dog may indicate on scent pools if the searchers had been stood around for a while although most dogs wouldn't be too bothered. The main problem would be if the searchers are still in the area, although if the dog has been trained along side footsearchers (especially if they are wearing hi-viz tops) then it will often ignore them.

Pete.

I wouldn't take that as a rule for all SAR Dogs, but it does seem to work with our experienced dogs!

After the dog team have done the search and missing person has been found, what should the dog team do, i.e. return to control, does the handler hand over the dog to someone temporarily, etc.
