Is there a LS dogs unit covering Lancashire?

To my knoladge there nearest team to you would be Norich.
Why do you want to join a LSDogs team and not SARDA?
If you don't won't to go on the mountains then you could always qualify with SARDA in lowland/ urban searching

Hi, thanks for your reply. Did you mean Norwich as in Norfolk? It's 4 1/2 hours away from me. I wouldn't be much use in an emergency

It's not that I don't want to join a mountain rescue team but I really want to do search and rescue work with my dog ultimately as dog training and working with dogs is my passion. My local mrt is Bowland-Pennine, and they recruit new members once a year in October, and then you need to do a minimum of two years before you can apply to Sarda to do your dog training.

I have found that the LS dogs members are not mrt first and wondered whether we had anything like this in Lancashire or do the dog handlers from the mrt do the lowland searching as well? Can a LS dogs unit be set up where there is already an mrt?

Any replies would be much appreciated x

Your nearest Lowland Search Dogs team is Cheshire.

LSDogs teams do not work the same in that you need to do a certain amount of time before working a dog but some teams have their own policies on this and require you to for with the local Association of Lowland Search and Rescue (ALSAR) foot search team and possibly be a member of both or it may be that the two are integrated as is the case with Cheshire.

I believe in Cheshire you have to do some time with the team before working with a dog as they work very similar to the MR and NSARDA teams.

A Lowland Search Dogs unit can not be set up in an area that is covered by a SARDA team.

Where in Lancashire are you?

You may find that if you really want to work a dog then going down the route of working with your local MR team is the best and only option open to you. I am sure they will be helpful and welcoming and you will enjoy the time and it will fly by. You can still learn about the dog stuff before being able to work with your dog in the team.

evening,there are a number of SARDA dog teams in Lancashire, why not contact Bowland, they have two handlers who will be quite happy to have a chat to you, probably try and get you to body / lay a trail for them, Rossendale also have a dog, Oldham have at least 2 and all of them will quite happily have a chat to you.
I am sure i have seen some where Merseyside are setting up a lowland team they may be thinking about dogs if not Cheshire as previously stated isnt that far down the motorway.
Out of interest which working trial group are you training with?
